Dionicio Morales Documentary
The first major project to be undertaken by the foundation is the Dionicio Morales Documentary. Three years will be dedicated to the production of a feature-length biographical film. The principal motivation for bringing Dionicio Morales’ story and message to the public in this form is the potential for this film to educate, motivate, and unite contemporary audiences in recognition of the struggles, activism and achievements of Mexican Americans. Concurrent with the film production, a hands-on mini-documentary filmaking program is being developed to provide direct learning experiences to members of the community. Opportunities for hands-on training will be made available during all aspects of the documentary production, from research to screening. Volunteers will be invited from local high schools, colleges, adult schools and community programs. In addition, volunteer professional mentors will be recruited to provide specialized instruction.
Upon completion of the documentary, a campaign to promote and screen the film will be implemented. At many of the screenings, speakers will lead group discussions, Q & A sessions and offer opportunities for interaction. The goal is to plan screenings strategically within the Mexican American community, in Mexico and in diverse communities throughout the country.
As this program is completed, a new topic will be selected to begin another documentary film.
